I had a lovely day yesterday. I woke at 4am though and didn't go back to sleep- I needed to get up at 5.15. So it was a looong day. Journey all OK, I was in Glastonbury just after 10 so I headed straight to the Chalice Well. I was the only visitor when I first arrived! I did my usual wander round with stops in various places. It was a bit of a wild windy day, and being January not a lot was in bloom but I did find some snowdrops just starting to poke their noses out of the earth by the well. I spent a long time by the well with two very tame little robins for company. I do love those gardens.
Then I headed back into town and had lunch at Rainbow's End and did my shopping. I had quite a long Glastonbury shopping list.. there is nowhere in Oxford where you can get essentials such as Imbolc cards. I got a book about Bigfoot which I was delighted about, a new Earth Magic oracle pack, a lovely cat and pentacle pendant from Liz's shop as I realised.. I don't have a pentacle necklace which is very remiss of me as a pagan! My sweet mum insisted on giving me some money so I bought the pendant with that plus a new Chalice Well ring. Plus assorted presents and cards.
Then I went and had a wander round the Abbey grounds, which I usually do before getting the bus home. I love to go right out to the nature reserve, then back via the ponds. Set off home just before 4, arrived home at 8. Went to see mum, went to bed at 9pm, was asleep my 9.05pm, woke briefly about 3 times in the night, then woke properly at 8am. I needed that long sleep!
My unicorn charm was still there

Wed/Thur 3rd/4th Nov 2010, visit 67
Slowly catching up on these, after this one just 2011, and this years visits to add then I will be up to date with my chronicle of my Avalon adventures.
I went down for an overnight stay with my mum (who had moved to live in a retirement flat very near me in Feb 2010) and my longtime friend Anne.
We had a lovely journey down with a slight detour. Anne picked mum and I up about 9.35 and we set off, we go cross country- Wantage, Hungerford, Marlbourough, Devises, Trowbridge, Frome, Shepton Mallett. So we got to Wantage and then somehow missed the turning.. and ended up driving along the foot of White Horse Hill as in the Uffington White Horse. Which was lovely :)) We then drove across the downs through Lambourne which is very very pretty. We got to Marlborough just after 11 and stopped and had a coffee there. Got to Glastonbury about 1.30. The first thing we did was have lunch in the Blue Note Cafe, then we wandered round the shops on one side of the road. A few purchases were made, some of them Yule presents :) Then about 3.30 we drove up to the Chalice Well where we were booked into Little St. Michaels for the night. We had Holy Thorn room, a lovely triple bedded room looking out over the gardens. We had a wander round the gardens then sat in the lounge having a cup of tea and a cake for a while.
In the evening we went to Knights restaurant for fish and chips, then I wanted to go for a walk in the gardens, which is quite safe after dark when you are staying at Little St Michaels, as only residents will be in the gardens then, but I was forbidden! (I may be in my 50's now but mum still worries about me!!
In the morning we had breakfast at the well and I had a wander round the gardens, then we went back into town and did some shopping, had lunch, and had a lovely wander round the Abbey ruins. My first ever visit to Glastonbury was in November so I like to go then for the autumn colours and the smell of woodsmoke in the air.
Our journey home didn't involve any wrong turnings, and we had a short tea stop at a garden centre
I always love the window displays in the shops
